Folklore Webinar Series – Joaquin Murrieta

July 28 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

The California Gold Rush of 1849 and 1850 produced many colorful characters. Since then, many have been idolized, lionized, and vilified. None more so than Joaquin Murrieta. Some claim he was a fictional character, or a Robin Hood of the Gold Fields, or a ruthless killer preying on the weak and undefended. One Hundred-Seventy years have passed since the purported head of this mysterious bandito was shown up and down California, but the debates about the truth of Joaquin Murrieta rage on today, much as the cries for his elimination reverberated throughout the Sierra then.
