Sierra Voices #5 | Our Forest Our Choice

October 12 @ 1:00 pm 2:00 pm

Our Forest Our Choice Presented by John Mount & Walter Page

This presentation offers a glimpse into the true history of our forests and the changes they have undergone over the last century. The Creek Fire alone devastated nearly 400,000 acres of forest habitat, and an additional 100,000 acres have been lost since the early 1900s, without any replacement efforts. As a result, thousands of wildlife species have disappeared due to the loss of vital habitat.

The program will explore the critical steps needed to address past mistakes and restore our forest ecosystem. It will raise important questions: What will our forest look like in 10, 20, or even 100 years? Will bird populations recover? Can we expect more catastrophic fires in the future? Are our efforts to replant seedlings a hopeful start, or will they be in vain? How many trees are required to restore the areas devastated by the Creek Fire?

This program emphasizes that it truly takes a village to repair and protect our forests for future generations.
