
Sierra Voices #4- Robin Calderwood –
Robin Calderwood oversees the training for the Sierra Central Canine Search and Rescue Team’s canine group. The team is certified by the California Area Rescue Dog Association (CARDA) and operates on a 24/7 basis, always ready to deploy at a moment’s notice to assist in locating missing individuals. The team consists of volunteers. As the team leader, Robin’s responsibility is to ensure that each member receives the appropriate training based on their current stage in the search and rescue process. Robin takes great pride in the dedication and commitment shown by each team member and is confident that, with ongoing training and collaboration, the team will continue to make a positive impact on the community.
Robin and the team will discuss various aspects of working with a canine in search and rescue, including the training required to teach a dog to search for missing people. They will also provide advice on how to prepare for wilderness situations and what to do if someone
