Education comes to life
More than a field trip, it’s an educational experience!
Developing and maintaining educational programs is a key point of our mission. To that end, we are proud to offer school tours led by former educators, board members, volunteers, and docents from our community.
The Museum of the Sierra offers extensive history and science to explore. Some of our major exhibits lend themselves naturally to lessons demonstrating STEM principles—magnetism in hydroelectric power generation, the physics of steam generation, the volume of flowing water in the lumber flume, to name just a few.
Students can also experience hands-on examples of specific state standards. In addition, our collection of local artifacts — from Native American baskets to crosscut saws and century-old cash registers — bears witness to the depth and breadth of California history.
