Tom Fearer was introduced to highway enthusiasm by his father during the 1980s after a road trip from Detroit to Chicago via US Route 12. Tom relocated from the Midwest to Arizona in 2001 and began writing about numerous highway corridors with ties to ghost towns. Tom relocated to Florida in 2013 and would provide map drawings of the 1928 iteration of the Overseas Highway, which the Pigeon Key Museum later used.
This will be an easy-to-moderate hike to or around. Bring your lunch and water, and enjoy a hike around Portal Forebay near the museum. We will meet in the Museum parking lot at 9:30 am, then caravan to our location.
The Grass Less Traveled is a bluegrass/Americana band known for traditional and contemporary sounds, influenced by legends like Flatt & Scruggs and the Bakersfield sound, offering good-time tunes!

Robin Calderwood oversees the training for the Sierra Central Canine Search and Rescue Team’s canine group. The team is certified by the California Area Rescue Dog Association (CARDA). It operates 24/7, ready to deploy at a moment’s notice to assist in locating missing individuals. The team consists of volunteers.
Dr. Allen Clyde has been operating a horse packing service in the John Muir and Dinkey Lakes Wilderness. Stations are at Wishon, Courtright Lakes, and Dinkey Creek. He has been operating for over 45 years and has transported more than 20,000 people and their gear.
