Buffalo Soldier educators from the Buffalo Soldier Mounted Cavalry Unit, based in Three Rivers, CA will have an encampment of tents that re-create a 19th Century U.S. military bivouac. Representatives in historically accurate uniforms will educate and inform the public about the challenges and contributions of segregated African American troops on the American frontier. Educators will speak with the public and have period replicas to accurately depict the life of a 19th Century soldier. Hike Leaders: Doug & Debbie Koerper Hike Description: An easy hike with little elevation change around Huntington Lake to Billy Creek Museum. Approximately 2 1/2 miles one way with vehicles available for those that do not want to hike back to Lakeshore. The hike will include information about the Ward Tunnel and completion of the Hydro Project. Beginning at 10:00 am the Sierra Steamers offer a free demonstration of a "Steam-Up", a 1905 Dolbeer Steam Donkey located in the Museum's Parking Lot. Bring the kids and let them blow the whistle. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The Central Sierra ResiliencyFund's Seedlings of Hope program and its partners will be hosting a cone harvesting workday at the Museum of the Sierra. Volunteers will assist CSRF in collecting seeds from Ponderosa, Jeffrey, and Sugar pinecones. These seeds will be sown at local nurseries in an effort to continue our reforestation efforts within the Fresno County footprint of the CreekFire. Lunch and water will be provided.
